How to polish seashell
2010-06-30 17:31:00
Seashells, also known by biologists as the exoskeletons of critters in the phylum Mollusca, are popular for collectors. Collecting seashells is a favorite pastime and everyone who has vacationed at the beach has most likely picked up some seashells at some point. Whatever their final destination, polish the seashells to make them look stunning. Read on to learn how to polish seashells.
Before you start to polish seashells, you have to determine if the seashells are from a craft store or straight from the beach. If the seashell comes from beach instead of craft store, you should clean it in advance.
Then, soak the seashells in a solution made from bleach and water in equal parts for a couple of days to remove all debris, stains and bacteria. When soaking is complete, wash off the shells with clean water.
Sand the seashells with light sandpaper or a nail buffer to polish them. This should provide a smooth, almost glossy finish to the shells. Use a clean soft cloth to daub mineral oil on the shells to make lustrous shine.
That’s all. After you polish the seashell, you can begin with your hand making of seashell jewelry or seashell craft.
