How to take care of pearl rings
2010-09-07 09:09:35
Pearls, made of a carbon compound, are organic by nature. This makes them more vulnerable to damage and deterioration than many other gems. Pearl rings should not be worn on a regular basis, especially when you work with your hands. Pearls are also easily damaged by physical contact, in addition to damage caused by exposure to soaps, perspiration, cosmetics and other chemicals.
Put on pearl rings last when you are ready to go out and take them off first when you return. A pearl ring should be put on after you are done with your hair, makeup and perfume and taken off before you use any soaps, lotions or makeup removers.
Pull on the metal ring part to take the ring off. Never pull on the pearl.
Keep your pearl ring in the bathroom or other area where it is exposed to high humidity. Pearls are grown in the water, so water and humidity is much less damaging than dry air.•
Store a pearl ring alone in a soft bag instead of in a jewelry box. Do not put it in an area with dry air, such as a safe deposit box. Ultra-dry air can craze pearls, or cause them to develop a series of tiny cracks.
Use a soft, wet cloth to remove dirt and oils from your pearl ring after each wearing. After several wearings, wash your pearl ring with a gentle soap solution in lukewarm water. Use a soft, natural-bristled brush to gently wipe the pearl with the soapy water.
Keep it someplace where it will stay clean and not be exposed to dirt or oil.
Keep it safe from the harsh chemicals. Never store pearls in a plastic bag. The plastic may contain chemicals that will damage the pearls.
Remember the above tips and warnings if you want your pearl rings have a longer life. Proper care will also add the pearl luster and beauty to the pearl rings.
