How to make wire wrapped beaded necklace

Wire-wrap method is a technique of making jewelry that is used a lot by jewelry makers and not hard to grasp actually. Here are some introductions teaching you to make a wire wrapped bead necklace.
1.Materials and tools.
Preparing wires.
Brass wire is inexpensive and suitable for learners in the first stage. Niobium wire is mainly popular for its colorfulness and easy begin, but expensive. Gold wire in 14K or 18K is the dearest metal and should be avoided by beginners. In hardness aspects, full-hard class belongs to brass and other metal should be half-hard, for brass is much harder than others. 18 – 20 gauge wire is in need.
Beads.
Beads had better be large glass or stone ones with big holes, allowing gauge wire through easily. The central piece should be an attractive pendant or a special bigger bead different from but matching other beads.
Tools.
Three kinds of pliers including round-nose, chain-nose and flat-nose are necessary. A pair of side cutters, a pin vise for holding the wire, a ring mandrel, a rawhide mallet, a millimeter gauge, needle file, steel ruler, and steel scribe.
2. Manufacture process.
Arrange the beads on a board to simulate the shape of the necklace, leaving space for the wire connections between each one. With the round-nose pliers, make a hang-man’s noose ring at one end of the metal wire as a clasp. Then cut off some wire used for the large ring and smaller ring. Wrap the free end of metal wire around at the base of the loop of the larger ring and attach the small ring to the next in the series. Again create a small loop in one end, string the beads through the long end one by one and make a loop between every two beads. Only one bead should be left and remove extra wire.
Softly open each loop by the flat-nose pliers and then connect them, closing the loops. Make a hook for the left bead to make a closure with the loop on the first bead. Make one more loop just like those small ones. Use the longer end of the wire to form a hook to fasten a closure. Wrap the ends near the shank of the hook and wipe off useless wire.
3. Announcements.
Every loop should be fastened tightly. Safety should be guaranteed by rubbing down sharp edges. Polish the metal and rinse the beads regularly to keep a pleasant look.
Designs could be flexible, due to a bold creativity. You can make unusually-shaped necklaces by increasing or decreasing the amount of beads and change the way of their arrangement.
On the whole, making a wire wrapped bead necklace is relatively easy and it is a process calling for time and practice. Just grope in this way and remember that “No pains, no gains”.
