Making guide on shell coin bracelet
2010-07-06 17:39:00
You can make a bracelet with either type of shell coin bead; one will fit flush against your wrist like a cuff and one will have shells dangling like charms.
Shell coin cuff bracelet
Shell coin bracelet fits like a cuff. They are of center-drilled holes. Coins size range from 6 mm to 30 mm and come in a variety of natural colors.
If you decide to make a shell bracelet, you should prepare elastic beading cord so that there will be no clasp to break the cuff design. Thread the beads over the elastic and tie a double overhand knot to join the ends. As with any jewelry knot, a drop of glue on top of the knot will help it stay secure.
If you prefer to add a clasp to your cuff bracelet, you have to choose satin cord or beading wire to make your shell coin bracelet. Attach the clasp to one end first and fix a crimp bead secured with crimp pliers to hold the wire or the cord around the clasp. Thread the first few shell coins over both the beading wire or cord and the tail that extends from the crimping bead. After you string your shell coins to the bracelet, add a crimp bead and the remaining end of your bracelet clasp to finish the cuff.
Shell coin charm bracelet
This kind of shell coin bracelet is a charm-style bracelet. Some of the most common shells you'll find with top-drilled holes are mother-of-pearl.
Buy a chain link bracelet and a jump ring for every shell coin. Separate the ring at the slit with flat nose pliers. Add the shell coin to the jump ring and hook the ring over a link in your chain bracelet. Add as many shell coins as you like to your bracelet.
