Types of ring setting

Now more and more people begin to care a lot about the ring setting, other than think the diamond is the most important. So what kind of setting you prefer?
Prong
Three or four prongs wrap around and hold the stone firmly, secure it safe.  The exposed surface of jewel catches the light to their best advantage.
Bezel
This kind of setting is most common for opals and some soft stones. A metal band surrounds a circular diamond, to hold it in place. Bezel setting provides a good protection and is known for its durability.
Flush
For flush setting the stone is set into a tapered hole in the metal, with the surrounding metal around its rim. This setting provides a nice protection to diamonds. Although it gives a tailored and contemporary appearance, the risk with it is that once done improperly, it can easily damage the diamond.
Tension
Used with very strong metal, the band keeps the stone itself. Consider of safety, sometimes small grooves are carved into the edge of the band, where it intersects the stone. The end result can be amazing.
Channel   
Channel settings are mostly used for simple rings. In this type of setting several stones of identical size are lined in a channel inset into the band, with a narrow strip of metal along the sides to hold them in place without prongs or bars between them. As stones are inset, it is a quite safe setting option, but it doesn’t highlight the gems properly.
Pave
This kind of setting ring is well known for its elegance and beauty, but it is rather expensive. Due to the entire of the ring is covered with gemstones, and the number of stone it involved.
Cluster
As the name suggests, this kind of setting design is used with multiple stones to create a flower or butterfly likeness. It is also used where many small stones are combined to create the illusion of large gem, without really use an expensive single stone of higher carat weight.
