The method of cleaning pearl sets
2010-06-17 09:04:00
If your pearl set is looking dingy or dirty, a cleaning is in order. Cleaning a set of pearl must be done carefully. The pearl is a soft stone that can't. Strong chemicals and many jewelry cleaning machines aren't suitable for pearls. However, it is possible to get your pearl sets clean without damaging.
Put warm water and soap into a bowl. Pick the size of bowl according to how large the pearls are or how long the strand is. Putting too many in the water all at once is not a good idea.
When cleaning, use a lint-free cloth, like a microfiber cloth, to wipe your pearls down. Don't use hard pressure, but softly "buffer" your pearl sets with the cloth.
Try washing them with water and very mild liquid soap. Wipe them with detergent-free damp cloth and leave them flat on a kitchen paper to dry. Once dry, coat them with olive oil to try and restore their sheen. After the olive oil treatment, laid the pearls on wash cloths or a moist kitchen towel to dry. Do not hang your pearls. When the wash cloth becomes dry, the pearls will usually be dry as well.
Finally, remember that if you preserve and care for pearl sets, they will last forever.
However you clean your pearl sets and whatever cleaning agent you use, you should remember to be very careful as you may be doing your pearls more harm than good.
