The value of nature pearls
2010-06-15 08:47:00
Natural pearl formations secreted in the interior of mollusks without human intervention. They are composed of a complex scleroprotein named conchiolin and of calcium carbonate in the form of aragonite and or calcite arranged in concentric layers. Natural pearls may be nacreous or non-nacreous. In this passage, we will talk about the value of natural pearl in two aspects—physical value and medical value.
1. Physical value: Natural pearls are extremely rare. In nature, only about one in 10,000 oysters will produce a pearl. Of those, only a small percentage will achieve the size, shape, and color of a desirable gemstone. And the vast majority of those formed will be small, off-color or flawed. The odds of finding a perfect natural pearl are around one in a million. Because of their rarity, natural pearls are hardly ever found in most pearl jewelry stores. The formation of a large, beautiful and perfect natural pearl is an event so unlikely in nature that only those at the pinnacle of wealth and power in a society were able to own them. Although their beauty, and the fact that they come out of the mollusk ready to use, were important factors, it was sheer rarity that drove their value to the highest levels.
2. Medical value: According to modern pharmacological research, pearl components can be divided into two major categories of inorganic and organic matter. Inorganic substances which include calcium, iron, zinc, lead, magnesium, copper, manganese, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, nickel and other trace elements; organic compounds, including angle of shell protein, taurine, porphyrin compounds. They make important health care and pearl medicinal value. Pearl also contains organic ingredients necessary for the body, which is the angle of the main capsid protein, and its hydrolysis products, including glycine and other amino acids. These amino acids to maintain nitrogen balance in the body is necessary, because they can not be synthesized in the body, it must obtain from food. Supplements of pearl powder can increase the capacity of human metabolism and promote skin cell regeneration, leaving the skin soft, white, delicate and smooth.
With the two aspect of physical value and medical value, you will have a brief comprehension about the value of natural pearl. The reason of why natural pearl has great value, not only because it is rare, but also because of it’s practical medical value on our body and skin.
