What is mabe pearl

The mabe pearl also called “a half pearl " is formed by first implanting a nucleus to the interior side of the mollusk shell, instead of inside the mollusk's tissue. They appear round on one side, flat on the other. They are not like round pearl with popularity.
Mollusk in the shell is inserted with a nucleus and then they will produce a normal pearl. Mabe culturing requires placing the nucleus so that it is flush against the inside of the shell. This process causes mabe pearls to have a flat side, as opposed to being relatively spherical, or at least rounded like standard pearls. The shell backing and nucleus are removed. The pearl's hollow is filled with resin and a mother of pearl backing is placed on it. When the mabe pearl is removed from the oyster, a thin piece of mother pearl might be attached to the flat side of the pearl. So mabe pearls are considered to be “semi-spherical cultured pearls”.
The main regions of mabe pearls are Japan, Indonesia, Australia, and French Polynesia.
