How to repair a pearl necklace
2010-08-19 09:35:27
A pearl necklace can accompany you for lifelong time, and even be passed down from generation to generation. As time passed, however, the pearl necklace can have some problems, such as the wearing out of the wire, the breaking of the clasps, or the damage of certain pearl. Whatever the problems are, you can repair the pearl necklace in the similar way as making a pearl necklace.
1. Gather the things you need. This includes: new jewelry wires, scissors, pliers, crimp beads. If the original clasp is broken, you also need to prepare a new clasp. If you want to replace some of the pearls of the original pearl necklace, then prepare extra pearls in the same size and color.
2. Before cutting the original wire, measure the length of the necklace first. Slide all the pearls off and place them in a small cup. Cut the new wire in the same length as the original one.
3. With one end of the wire, thread it through a crimp bead and a part of the clasp successively, pull the thread back and thread it again through the crimp bead. Place the crimp bead to one or two inches near the end, and crimp the crimp bead with pliers.
4. Now restring all the pearls on the new wire. Pick out the damaged ones and replace them with new pearls if you like. After finishing all the beads, end the other side of the necklace with crimp bead and clasp.
5. If you only need to change a new clasp for your old pearl necklace, you can only cut between the broken clasp and the closest pearl. Remove the nearest pearl so that you have extra wire for a new clasp. Refer to the instructions above to end the necklace with crimp bead and a new clasp.
Now you have your pearl necklace in good state again. It is easy to handle. If you know how to make a beaded necklace, there is no problem for repairing it.
