How to take care of garnet jewelry

Garnets are hardy stones that can be worn everyday, but this advantage also leads to heavier wear, tear and grime buildup on the accessories. Here's how to take care of your garnet jewelry.
Wearing
You’d better always complete your makeup before putting on your jewelry so that the chemicals in hairspray and makeup won't damage it. If you will do some housework or gardening, you should remove your garnet jewelry in advance. And do not forget to avoid exposing your garnets to harsh chemicals.
Cleaning
Gently polish the stones with a clean, dry soft cloth firstly. Use firm rubbing motions to polish the gem and remove any dust, dirt and grime. Then second step is to make a mild soap-and-water solution and clean the setting of the garnet with a soft toothbrush. If the stone is in a decorative setting, then you can scrub the portions of the setting that are not in direct contact with the garnet.
Wash off the garnet jewelry with a damp cloth in order to remove all soap residues. Lastly, dry the garnet jewelry thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. This will prevent streaking and spotting. You can let the item air dry once you have dried as much as you can with the cloth.
Storing
Store each piece of garnet jewelry in its own jewelry bag to keep it from touching other pieces. And place all the jewelry bags into your jewelry boxes. Store your jewelry in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
