How to judge pearls value by luster
2010-06-15 17:56:00
The quality of the pearl luster is directly related to how even and smooth the layers of nacre are. It is a very important value factor for grading pearls and the value of the pearls. Here is the method of judging pearl value by pearl luster.
1. Highest value pearls are pearls that have excellent luster, which have are bright, sharp, and distinct reflections. The amazing reflection and clarity and shine like this is extremely rare and requires time and resources to cultivate. A large pearl of this quality would cost several thousand dollars.
2. High value pearls are pearls that have good luster, which have bright but not sharp reflections. And they are slightly hazy around the edges. But these pearls still have good luster, and you can see how clearly it reflects the light. A large pearl of this quality can cost around a thousand dollars.
3. Medium value pearls are pearls that have fair luster, which have weak, hazy, and blurred reflections. They reflect light attractively though not extraordinary. A set of pearls like this should cost in the middle to low hundreds depending on size.
4. Lowest value pearls are pearls that have poor luster, which have dim and diffused reflections. The dull luster of a pearl might be due to its having a thin layer of nacre. A pearl without luster is significantly less valuable than a lustrous pearl.
Generally, pearls with the highest luster look almost metalic. Pearls with poor luster look chalky and dull. When the pearl has good luster, you will be able to see a sharp contrast creating the illusion resembling a ball. A pearl with no reflection or dull color is poor quality. A pearl with poor luster the object will display poor in the pearl. The higher the luster, the high value the pearl is.
