Generally speaking, for a man with a 17.5” collar size, a chain length of 20” is recommended at a minimum. An 18” chain would be too short. For women a collar size of 15”, the minimum chain length could be 17-18”. When your collar has 16” length, you can make your necklace lay flat on the neck for instance the Omega style, a 17” can be fine. Necklace with heavy pendants will hang slightly longer as well.
