How to make a glass necklace
2010-06-21 19:21:00
A striking glass pendant, earrings, or bracelet can create a personal fashion statement in an otherwise plain outfit. Bellow will be a guide on how to create a glass necklace. With this guide you can be able to make glass necklace by yourself.
1. Select the right glass for your work. Soda lime glass and borosilicate glass are more often used in lamp work. Decide on the colors you want for your glasswork and any embellishments you would like to add to enhance the design. Think about the order in which you will place these items to create the effect you want.
2. Cut the glass to the size you want using a glasscutter and breaker. Begin by heating the glass rods slowly and carefully to prevent them from shattering from sudden heat. Then thread three pieces of nylon wire through the bail of a glass pendant until the nylon on both sides of the pendant is even and the pendant hangs exactly in the middle. Thread clear glass beads onto each piece of nylon wire starting on the left side of the pendant. Add clear glass beads to all three strands of nylon wire on the right side of the pendant.
3. Thread a single collate clamp onto the three stands of nylon wire on the right side of the pendant. Thread a crimp bead over the three strands of wire, about ½ inches from the end, and squeeze with a pair of chain-nose pliers until it is completely flat. Nip the excess wire from the ends using cutter pliers and slide the collate clamp up and over the flattened crimp bead. Use chain-nose pliers to gently close the collate clamp.
4. Apply a clasp to the left side of nylon strands and secure it gently using the chain-nose pliers. Add a jump ring to the right side and squeeze it completely together with the chain-nose pliers.
