Legends and meaning about citrine
2010-06-30 11:04:00
Citrine is a variety of quartz whose color ranges from a pale yellow to brown. It is nearly impossible to tell cut citrine from yellow topaz visibly. The name is derived from Latin citrina which means "yellow" and is also the origin of the word "citron." There’re some legends about citrine.
Citrine is the clear yellow or golden form of the mineral quartz. As such it is related to amethyst which is the purple form of quartz, and also to rock crystal which is the colourless variety.
Citrine is the November birthstone, sharing the title with topaz. In fact, the citrine stone has been used to imitate topaz and was once called Brazilian topaz.. Citrine is also the gemstone that celebrates the 13th anniversary of marriage. Citrine is named after the French word Citrin, meaning lemon. The color of citrine ranges from straw and sun yellow to clay orange, to deep, wine colored Madeira red.
Citrine is often incorrectly and ignorantly sold as topaz. Although topaz and citrine can often be similar colours, they are both completely distinct gemstones.
Citrine is generally associated with abundance, creation and creativity, success, academics, science, intellectuality, prosperity and education. According to Chinese legends, Citrine is "The Stone of Success" and it should be given to generous people only. Citrine jewelry was deeply appreciated by ancient Chinese emperors for their ability to increase intellectual capabilities and broaden the mind. Today Citrine is used by modern Chinese students to help them succeed on examnations. Many Chinese professors and teachers also use it when lecturing. Citrine is widely used in China during gemstone healing sessions to produce feelings and emotions and thoughts of abundance.
