Introduction to amethyst energy
2010-06-30 10:51:00
Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry. The name comes from the Ancient Greek,a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness.
Amethyst can enhance mental strength, stability, confidence and vigor. Physically,it reportedly brings body systems into balance, from digestion to blood sugar.
Amethyst is composed of an irregular superposition of alternate lamellae of right-handed and left-handed quartz. It has been shown that this structure may be due to mechanical stresses. Because it has a hardness of seven on the Mohs scale, amethyst is suitable for use in jewelry.
Amethyst occurs in primary hues from a light pinkish violet to a deep purple. Amethyst may exhibit one or both secondary hues, red and blue. The amethyst was used as a gemstone by the ancient Egyptians, and was largely employed in antiquity for intaglios. Beads of amethyst are found in Anglo-Saxon graves in England.
